2018 has been the year of body sculpting. We’ve added not one, but two, Coolsculpting machines this year, offering our patients the benefit of reducing fat in two areas at the same time. While some prefer “ice, ice, baby”, patients like Vogue’s Beauty Editor, Jenna Rennert, often share their love for our warmer option – SculpSure, which permanently destroys fat cells through controlled heat.
What’s new in body sculpting?
It’s not always about the fat and we are bringing the whole package to 2019 with our newest addition to the body sculpting family, Emsculpt. It is FDA-cleared for the “improvement of abdominal tone, strengthening of the abdominal muscles, development of firmer abdomen, and strengthening, toning, firming of the buttocks.”
How does it work?
Emsculpt uses electromagnetic energy to get the abdomen to supermaximally contract, a type of contraction which is not possible voluntarily. One treatment has the same effect as having done 20,000 crunches. In addition to toning the abdomen, it treats the buttocks as well. After only 4 treatments an average of 19% of the fat in the treated area is lost and 16% of muscle mass is gained.
Who is the ideal candidate for this new tech?
Because Emsculpt, Sculpsure and Coolsculpting are non-invasive treatments, most anyone can have them completed. However, the ideal candidate is at BMI of 30 or less, has a healthy lifestyle consisting of regular exercise and good nutrition.
