Blepharoplasty New York, NY

A blepharoplasty is a facial rejuvenation procedure that restores the eyelids to a brighter, more open, and youthful appearance. (1)

As we age, intrinsic and external factors wear on our appearance. Initial changes often appear around the eyes, as the skin in this region is the thinnest on the body. (2) Eyelid skin can start to sag, under-eye bags can start to develop, or you may notice deepening lines or creases. While these are natural effects of aging, they can leave a tired, disproportionate appearance. With blepharoplasty, you can refresh your appearance and effectively address these concerns.

If you are interested in blepharoplasty, you must choose a reputable practice with a board-certified surgeon to care for you. Dr. Jennifer Levine leads our practice and is one of a few physicians double-board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. This highlights her in-depth knowledge, training, and experience working with the intricate structures surrounding the eyes.

About Blepharoplasty

A blepharoplasty, or an eyelid lift, elevates the appearance of the eyes and surrounding features. This procedure tightens weakened muscles, eliminates excess skin, and removes or repositions fat. Through these techniques, Dr. Levine can adjust the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

Because the eyelids are a delicate part of the face, you must seek the services of a true facial expert, such as Dr. Levine. She offers decades of experience specializing in facial surgery and is actively certified by both the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This demonstrates her dedication to quality care in her specialty, helping her patients achieve natural, seamless results.

Preparation

Once you have decided to proceed with your blepharoplasty, Dr. Levine will provide you with detailed instructions to help you prepare. You must adhere to each one to ensure a safe and successful procedure. These typically include:

  • Ceasing Certain Medications: Discontinue blood-thinning medications and certain supplements.
  • Arranging Transportation: Prepare transportation home after your procedure.
  • Prepare Time Off: Take adequate time away from your responsibilities and commitments to ensure you have enough time to heal.
  • Avoiding Certain Substances: Stop consuming any nicotine or alcohol in the weeks before your procedure, and prepare to maintain your abstinence in the following weeks.

Procedure

Dr. Levine performs blepharoplasty on an outpatient basis at her private surgical suite. When you arrive, you will meet with her again, and she will confirm the details of the treatment plan with you. She will cleanse your skin, and you will receive the appropriate anesthesia.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Dr. Levine will make an incision that follows the natural crease of your upper eyelid to access the underlying structures. (3) She will then remove or reposition excess skin, soft tissues, and fat.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Depending on your case, Dr. Levine may either place an incision on the inside of your eyelid or just below your lash line. Through this incision, she will tighten loose eyelid muscles and either remove or reposition the skin, tissues, and fat.

Recovery

After Dr. Levine sends you home, you will need to take the time to recover. To guide you through your recovery, Dr. Levine will provide you with a detailed set of post-operative instructions. These will help guide you through incision maintenance, side-effect management, and activity restriction timelines.

Many patients can return to most of their daily activities after taking it easy for about seven to ten days. You will need to refrain from more strenuous activities for another three weeks afterwards, or however long Dr. Levine advises. If you have any questions or concerns that arise as you recover, our team will be available to provide you with the proper guidance and support.

Patient experiences may vary.

Results

You will be able to enjoy the full results of your eyelid lift once any residual swelling subsides. Your eyelids will appear smoother and tighter, more defined, and more alert. You may also notice an improved field of peripheral vision if hanging skin had been obstructing your full field of view.

The results of your blepharoplasty will be long-lasting, with effects that you may enjoy for several years to come. To best preserve them, Dr. Levine recommends maintaining an effective skincare regimen and wearing the proper sun protection when leaving the house.

Corresponding and Combination Procedures

Dr. Levine can perform several other procedures in conjunction with blepharoplasty to provide more in-depth rejuvenation. Many patients choose to combine their blepharoplasty with other facial procedures, like a facelift or brow lift. Dr. Levine can provide you with more personalized suggestions during your consultation.

Facelift

A facelift is a procedure that can restore a more youthful-looking appearance across the lower portion of the face and neck. It achieves this by elevating your facial tissues, fat, and muscles to address visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, skin laxity, descending fat, or jowling. Excess skin will also be removed. Dr. Levine can perform several variations of the facelift to help you attain long-lasting rejuvenation.

Brow Lift

A brow lift is a surgical procedure that can refresh the appearance of your forehead and eyebrow region. In this procedure, Dr. Levine elevates the position of your eyebrows and excises skin, creating tighter, smoother-looking skin and a brighter appearance for your eyes.
