For years, Merz North America’s Radiesse® Volumizing Filler has helped women and men to minimize the effects that aging has had on their faces by immediately replenishing lost volume. But now—as of Thursday June 4th, 2015, Radiesse® has been cleared by The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used for hand augmentation.
How was Radiesse® cleared by the FDA?
∗According to a press release distributed by Merz North America, the company performed a controlled and random US trial where they found that Radiesse® enhanced the look of both hands in 75% of the individuals who used the product over the course of three months. What’s more, almost all of the individuals themselves noticed an improvement in their hands during the three-month study.
What prompted the study?
Just like the face, another place on an individual’s body where the signs of aging are apparent is the hands. Also, according to Jim Hartman, Vice President of Merz North America, he found that many people—especially those who already use facial cosmetic fillers such as Radiesse®—often desire something that they can use on their hands. And voilà! Merz took it upon themselves to give individuals exactly what they need to mask the signs of aging on their hands!
Are there any side effects of using Radiesse® on your hands?
During Merz’s study, they found that some reactions occurred at the injection site and included mild to moderate pain, redness, swelling and bruising. ∗All of these symptoms lasted up to a week and were so moderate that no treatment was needed.
How can you tell if Radiesse® is right for you?
Consulting with your Doctor about your medical history will help you better understand if Radiesse® is ideal. However, those who have a history of experiencing allergic reactions to Radiesse®, or have a known hypersensitivity to any of Radiesse®’s components are not advised to use this product. Also, those with bleeding disorders are discouraged from using Radiesse®.
What can Radiesse® do for your hands?
Individuals who are cleared to use Radiesse® will find that their hands will become fuller and that their tendons and veins will become less exposed!
What does the procedure entail, and how long do the effects last?
Radiesse® will be injected under the skin on the back of your hands with a very small needle. The results of this procedure can last up to a year!
What’s so great about this breakthrough?
The best thing about Radiesse® is that it acts as a scaffold providing structure for an individual’s natural collagen to grow. Also, as of today, Radiesse® is the sole dermal filler that has been cleared by the FDA to be used for hand rejuvenation!
